A group of highly motivated community members have initiated a project to explore the potential to open a McHenry County Food Cooperative by May 2015. This volunteer effort has over 100 people currently signed up and a core steering group actively engaged. We have had four public monthy meetings with great attendance.

Our vision is to launch a memberowned and run grocery store (food cooperative) promoting a healthy, ethical and resilient community with a full product line. We intend to strengthen local and regional food relationships by sourcing locally when feasible. Our emphasis will be on providing fairly priced natural food and products. We expect a wide range of organic choices will be available and determined by the members. This project depends on volunteers and potential interested members. A member-owned and member-run cooperative business is only as strong and active as its membership. Participating in the process of defining and developing a McHenry County Food Cooperative means that our store will reflect your needs and priorities.

Let your voice be heard. Get involved and be a part of the better future you want to see. Please visit our website to sign up at various interest levels at www.mchenrycountyfoodcoop. com or email us at mcfoodcoop@gmail. com. Please also visit our Facebook page and “like” us by searching for “McHenry County Food Cooperative.” Our next public meeting will be held on August 26. Location and Time TBD. Please confirm from our website or Facebook page these meeting details. Courtney Berner from the University of Wisconsin Center for Cooperatives will be our guest speaker.
