My name is Madeline Richmond, and I have been a resident of Elgin, Illinois for 22 years. I am an artist studying photography at Rogers State University in Claremore, Oklahoma. I am currently working towards my Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree, and have already attained my Associate of Arts Degree from Elgin Community College. My interest in photography began after I graduated from high school when I learned to observe and capture moments, rather than just look at them happening around me. I hope that my photography will tell a story to the rest of the world, and wish to be a travel photographer in the future. As part of my studies, I am required to complete an internship, which brings me to The Marengo-Union Times.
My name is Lydia LaGue; and I am a junior at Marengo Community High School. I have been writing stories and poems since middle school and have always wanted to write for a newspaper. Since my school did not offer a newspaper or journalism club, my friend, Luke Garfield, and I proposed the idea of starting a newspaper to the high school administration. When it was approved, we immediately started on the program. Through our school newspaper, I became more interested in journalism and heard about an internship with The Marengo- Union Times. I believe it will help develop my writing skills and will help with applications for college. In college, I want to double-major in English and journalism and minor in theatre. This internship, along with the knowledge I’ve gained from my English classes, will help me prepare for my future. I will also continue to pursue my passion, writing, which I hope to make into a career. As Confucius said, "Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life."
