When Mike McDowd became the manager of Chevelle’s Bar & Grill in Union, he and the Noble family made it their goal to also start a family restaurant.
The restaurant and bar, owned by Union residents, Doug and Kristi Noble, now offers Chevelle’s Bar & Grill in the front of the building, and Noble’s Family Restaurant in the back. Both businesses are located in the former Union American Legion building. McDowd said the restaurant and bar is being redone with new ceiling tiles, paint, and lighting.
"I intend to put pictures of the town and [people in the town] on the walls," he said. "It will be in the motif of 40’s and 50’s old farm town style."
Additional menu items and specials will also be available, such as a new Wednesday Night all-you-can-eat "Taste of Italy." Banquets and catering are also available. McDowd said the Noble family purchased the building last year after the passing of Doug Noble’s father, Glenn Noble, who was very involved in the American Legion. "Doug felt it was the right thing to do," McDowd said. "He purchased it to keep it as a family business in Union, owned by people who live in town."
McDowd said the restaurant and bar is expanding quickly, with many local customers, as well as those from surrounding towns.
Roger Ball, a Union resident, said he enjoys the cod at the all-you-can-eat Friday Night Fish Fry. Gammy Wilkins, also a Union resident, said she’s been going to the restaurant since it opened and likes the walleye, lunch, and drinks.
"It’s a great place, with great food and great people," Wilkins said.
Chevelle’s Bar & Grill and Noble’s Family Restaurant are located at 6517 Main Street in Union, IL. Both are open Monday through Friday 11 a.m. to 9p.m. For more information, call 815-923-4400.
