Marengo’s girls basketball squad, backed by a 21-point effort from Marissa Knobloch, easily wrapped up the Harvard Hornets in a 79-29 Kishwaukee River conference win. The Jan. 24 victory gave Marengo (20-5 Overall, 9-1 KRC) the distinction of having consecutive 20-win seasons, which last occurred a decade ago.
Harvard (2-19, 0-10) was outgunned from the opening tip-off, as Knobloch led all scorers in the contest. The Indians’ Jennifer Heinberg added 18 points, Hannah Faber (7), and Lauren Aubry (7) rounded out the high scorers. Lauren Schafer scored 9 of the 29 points by Harvard.
In the Dec. 23 match-up at Richmond-Burton, The Indians pulled away from the Rockets for a 59-34 conference win.
The Marengo Indians used an even attack in upending the Richmond-Burton Rockets 58-45, at home, in a Jan. 25 Kishwaukee River Conference win. The Indians (10-9 Overall, 1-4 KRC) were led in scoring by Matt Volkening (17 points), who netted a trio of three-pointers, Finn Schirmer (16), and Brock Bertrand (8).
The Indians put away the Harvard Hornets in a Jan. 11 home tilt, 54-36.
The Indians defeated the Harvard Hornets 39-30 at the Homer Barry Gym. The team got pin falls from Jake Doyle (132 lbs), Landon Oine (220 lbs), Aaron Shephard (152 lbs), and Mason Feldt (285 lbs). Other wins came from Cameron Miller (145 lbs major decision), Stan Dawiec (160 lbs), Sebastian Palka (170 lbs), and Michael Macias (182 lbs-technical fall)
The team next goes to the Feb. 2 IHSA Class 2A Rochelle Regional Tournament, and qualifying grapplers will move on to the IHSA Class 2A Geneseo Sectional.
A Dec. 20 contest against conference rival, Woodstock, saw the Indians coming away with a 41-27 victory. Marengo pin falls came from Logan Reed (120 lbs), Jake Doyle (132 lbs), and Landon Oine (220 lbs). Adding to the total were point-fall wins by Joe Resendez (113 lbs), Cameron Miller (138 lbs), Stan Dawiec (160 lbs), Sebastian Palka (170 lbs), and Mason Feldt (285 lbs).
Marengo beat Bartlett 2,918-2,939 in a Dec. 20 away match-up. Josh Streu bowled the high series of 576, and Tommy Lusinski threw a high series of 520 for the JV team.
The Marengo Indians varsity girl’s bowling team starts the post-season Feb. 2, at the IHSA Dundee-Crown Regional Tournament in Carpentersville.
