American Legion spring Meat Raffle raises money for scholarships

Miss Kitty’s Saloon will be the site of Marengo’s American Legion Post 192’s semi-annual Meat Raffle on Friday, April 12 from 5 p.m. until everything is gone.

“We hold these events twice a year to raise funds primarily for scholarships,” said Post Commander Larry Dochterman. “Some of the funds will be used for operating expenses, but the emphasis is always on scholarships. This scholarship will be for $1000 and will be given to someone who will be going into one of the vocational trades – welder, machinist, hairdresser, chef… – someone who does not intend to go to a traditional four-year college/university for a degree.

“We get the meat from Sullivan’s. They have been very generous to us with their pricing. We will be selling tickets for $1 each and spin the raffle wheel. We will have 40 raffles or as many as we can.

“Bob Brown and Miss Kitty work hard with the Legion to make the event a success. Sullivan’s always works with us in providing the meats we feature. We will have gifts, raffle baskets, and door prizes.”

“We try to help as much as we can,” said Bob Brown. “We always give them a big basket to raffle and I will probably give them a couple baskets this year. We support everything they do.”

Miss Kitty’s Saloon is located at 1101 E. Grant Hwy.
