Women In Business Holds 2nd Annual “Champagne, Chocolate & Chicks Night”

Many women in business had a very relaxing night on March 16th at Joe’s Place in Marengo. Ellen Brunschon said she got a manicure; hand wax; massage; and reflexology at the 2nd Annual Women In Business “Champagne, Chocolate & Chicks” Night.

“It was wonderful--nice and relaxing,” Brunschon said. Marlene Slavin, CEO/President of the Marengo- Union Chamber of Commerce, said they had such a great success again this year. WIB is a division of the chamber, she said.

“ It’s a fun evening for our ladies in the Women In Business and their friends,” Slavin said.

“They can come and relax and network.” In addition to champagne, chocolate, and various refreshments, several vendors were also at the event offering products and giving samples, she said.

“We [had] stations set up where they can get different services done,” Slavin said.“They pay a fee and select the services they would like to do.” Some of the many services and products offered included: hand waxing; manicures; facials; eyebrow arches; chair massage; reflexology; teeth whiting; tinsels and hair extensions. Slavin said the chamber had 40 people signed up for the event this year—the maximum capacity. Due to the great turnout, Slavin said she thinks they will hold the event again next year. Brenda Courtney, who attended the event, said it was, “a fun opportunity to get out and relax and talk to your peers.”

“It was a nice break from the cold, and a nice place for women to network,” said Diane Bradbury, another participant in the event. Christine Wiemke, the new executive assistant for the Marengo-Union Chamber of Commerce, said it was, “a wonderful introduction to a chamber and Women In Business event.”
