What's Happening at the Park This Summer

This summer, the Marengo Park District is offering a broad range of programs. For details, please refer to the new brochure we’ve mailed to you, or go online to view at marengoparkdistrict.org.

Thanks to the members of the Park Foundation, the grounds around the building and pool really look beautiful after the “Perk Up the Park Day,” on Sunday, May 15, 2011. The work crew of 15 included board members Steve Mortensen and Barbara S. Weidner.

If it’s summer it must be pool time at Starfish Waters. So, purchase those pool passes now! Be sure to reserve your private pool rentals or children’s birthday parties today. Swim lesson sign-ups are also available at this time.

It’s Summer With the Arts Youth Theater’s 20th Anniversary! Come and see “Beauty and the Beast Jr.,” directed by our very own Marengo Community High School graduate, Mary Bohlander. Lana Gibbons is the Music Director, and Choreography is by the Marengo School of Dance.

Performance Dates are July 7, 8, and 9, 2011 at 7pm at MCHS. Tickets are $7.50 each. Be sure to mark your calendars for our Summer With the Arts Concert in the Park to be held in beautiful Marengo Indian Oaks Park on stage, featuring our all-time favorite Crystal Lake Community Band on Tuesday, June 21st at 7p.m. The rain date will be on Tuesday, June 28, 2011--same time and same place. Jennifer Schlueter of The Marengo School of Dance will be offering a Dance/Cheer Camp and Dance/Pom Camp in June. There’s also a Parents’ Night Out on June 24, July 1, and July 15, 2011 from 6-9pm.

And have you checked out the various specials being offered by Randy Shute, at the Fitness Center? A one-year membership is available for a nine-month charge to any new member joining the Fitness Center in June, July, and August. Workout Punch Cards are also available so you can come in at your convenience to workout for 10, 20, or 30 workouts.

Lori Gillespie will be offering a variety of art classes and workshops this summer for all age groups as well as a Youth Drawing Camp. Sign up your young Rembrandts now!

We welcome Kim Bauman of Hidden Path Arts programs among our summer offerings, which include: Padded Weapons; Cho-Dan-Kwan Karate; Evening Yoga; Tai- Chi; Meditation; and Ladies Self-Defense.

Camps for All: Camp Arrowhead and Teen Camp are for those entering first through fifth grade; and Tot Lot Camp is for ages three to five years old. Fairy Tale Camp is for ages four to six years-old.

Come out and play T-ball. Sign up for T-Ball for ages four and five; or six and seven year- old divisions. Volunteer coaches are needed! Sign up by June 7, 2011.

If kicking is your thing, sign up for Soccer NOW through July 16, 2011. This is a Fall and Spring season program. You must be four years of age by July 31, 2011 to be eligible.

Junior High Nights, (5th-8th Graders), are held on Fridays: June 3; July 8; and August 5, 2011 from 6:30-8:30pm . The cost is $5 at the door.

Horseback Riding Lessons will be available through Glory Bound Farm from May 14 through July 9. Lessons are available for Colts and Fillies (three to six years old), beginners and advanced, under the supervision of Jennifer Finkelman.

Our Annual Fishing Derby will be held at “Griebels” Pond on June 18, 2011 from 8a.m. to 11am for ages five and younger, to 15 years of age. Children under 8 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. Prizes will be awarded.
